AYASOFYA (HAGIA SOPHIA)

In addition to being one of the most visited museums in the world, Hagia Sophia is one of the most spectacular works of world architectural history. Hagia Sophia, called the "eighth wonder of the world" by the Eastern Roman Philon in the 6th century, was built three times on the same spot. Hagia Sophia is the largest Byzantine church built in Istanbul. In the northwest of the building, there is a column covered with bronze plates with a hole in the middle. Known as the sweating column, weeping column or wishing column, this column is said to have supernatural powers and get wet when touched. Hagia Sophia is within walking distance of our hotel.

SULTANAHMET (BLUE MOSQUE)

The Blue Mosque was built between 1609 and 1616. Mosque; It was called the Blue Mosque by the Europeans because it was decorated with more than 20,000 Iznik tiles in blue, green and white, and the half domes and the inside of the large dome were also decorated with hand-drawn works predominantly in blue. With the conversion of Hagia Sophia from a mosque to a museum in 1934, it became the main mosque of Istanbul. In fact, it is one of the largest building complexes in Istanbul, together with the complex of the Sultan Ahmet Mosque. YEREBATAN SARNICI (BASALICA CISTERN)

One of the extraordinary ancient structures of Istanbul is the Basilica Cistern, located in the southwest of Hagia Sophia. Built in 532 during the reign of Justinian I, this large underground water reservoir is the largest surviving Byzantine cistern in Istanbul. The cistern, which has an area of ​​9,800 m2, is 140 meters long and 70 meters wide, and has a water storage capacity of 100,000 tons. The cistern was rediscovered in 1545 by the Dutch scholar Petrus Gyllius, who was researching Byzantine antiquities in the city. You can see two Medusa heads in the cistern in the far left corner. Both capitals are used as column bases; one upside down, the other tilted to the side. According to Greek mythology, Medusa had the power to gorgonize those who looked after her, so putting the Head of Medusa in a cistern may have been for protection. You can visit the beautiful Basilica Cistern, which takes only 5 minutes by taking the tram from Laleli to Sultanahmet!

Galata Tower has dominated the Beyoğlu skyline since 1348. Galata Tower, which has many legends about its construction, was used as a fire watchtower until the 1960s. TAKSİM MEYDANI (TAKSIM SQUARE)

Located in Beyoğlu, the square is one of the most famous spots in Istanbul. It got its name from the distribution of water coming from the Belgrad Forest to the surrounding districts during the Ottoman Period, that is, dividing. The Republic Monument, located in Taksim Square, one of the busiest squares of the city, was placed in 1928. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms can be seen on the monument, which symbolizes the War of Independence on one side and the Republic of Turkey on the other. The area around the square, which is active at all hours of the day, is full of accommodation, entertainment, culture and shopping centers. There is a nostalgic tram running from the beginning of the square to Tünel via Istiklal Street.
